The Redskins traveled to the City by the Bay for their last game of the first Zorn season with a chance to go 9-7. Instead, they laid an egg in the second half, after leading 17-7 at halftime, allowing the 49ers to score 20 points and winning the game on a last second, 39-yard field goal, 27-24. A too often heard in the latter half of the 2008 season Redskin player quote, “We let it slip away.” The 49ers were not a very good football team, but the Redskins managed to make them look great. Granted this was a meaningless game, but “winning” is a habit that needs to be practiced game in and game out. Coach Zorn’s first season ended 8-8. I believe at the beginning of the season I said an 8-8 season would be a good year, so I guess I better stand by my statement. But it is interesting how close a fantastic 11-5 season was to Coach Zorn’s first year team. They win the Rams, Bengals, and 49ers games and Redskins fans are jumping beans.
